Summary
Oso Easy Double Pink is a low-growing groundcover rose bearing light pink flowers with an open face supporting pollinator visitation. These blooms had a slight ombre effect with paler petal edges and more saturated color near the center. Flowers faded to white with a pinkish tinge before turning a light sepia and shattering off the plant. Double Pink was evaluated at UC Davis and South Coast REC (SCREC) with site specific performance details and recommendations below.
UC Davis Trial – Davis, CA
Oso Easy Double Pink produced large flushes of flowers every 6-8 weeks with the highest floral scores in June and August but maintained some blooms at all times from May through October. The relatively large inflorescences produced by Double Pink could be characterized as an instant bouquet. Participant ratings at the June and October Open Houses aligned with trials staff evaluations. Overall Double Pink performed well in the trials, achieving a mean overall appearance rating of 3.7 over the deficit period. With no significant differences observed between the treatments, we would recommend categorizing this as WUCOLS Low in Region 2.
South Coast REC – Irvine, CA
Double Pink reached full bloom in May with bright pink flowers engulfing the entire plant. Foliage often showed signs of tip burn and insect damage throughout the season. Aphids and ants were frequently observed on the plants around the flowers, and we would recommend organically controlling ants to minimize the aphid impacts. The spent flowers and brown calyces that remained lowered overall appearance values. The plants remained compact during the trial, a trait that would work well in small spaces. We recommend irrigation on Low water for Double Pink in WUCOLS Region 3.
