Field Sites

The UC Landscape Plant Irrigation Trials (UCLPIT) evaluates plant materials at two locations:

  • South Coast Research and Extension Center (South Coast REC/SCREC) - Irvine, CA 
  • UC Davis (UCD) - Davis, CA

South Coast REC - Irvine, CA

This site was established in 2018 with the first data collected in 2019. The trial fields are located on San Emigdio fine sandy loam soil and are irrigated with reclaimed irrigation water. Located in USDA Zone 10a and Sunset Zone 22, results from this site could be generalized to represent the WUCOLS South Coastal region (Region #3).

South Coast REC evaluates plants at 2 and 3 meter spacings in full sun and at 2 meter spacing under 50% shade cloth.

UC Davis - Davis, CA

This is the initial trial site, first planted in 2004. The trial fields are located on Yolo clay loam soil and irrigated with potable water. Located in USDA Zone 9b and Sunset Zone 14, results from this site could be generalized to represent WUCOLS Central Valley region (Region #2).

UC Davis evaluates plants at 2 and 3 meter spacings in full sun and at 2 meter spacings under 50% shade cloth.
